Please join us for an important conversation about the current state-of-play with Drug Law Reform in NSW. We have brought together experts in this field including Dr Marianne Jauncey, Will Tregoning, Georgina Bell, Shane Prince SC and Dr Ben Mostyn for a discussion with Nicholas Cowdery AO KC about moving towards harm reduction drug laws for NSW. The evidence overwhelmingly supports a health-based approach to drug use and more countries around the world are going down this path. It is time for our political leaders to set aside their ideology, listen to the evidence, and modernise our laws. This is a free event however, we require registration below.

	Nicholas Cowdery AO KC was the Director of Public Prosecutions for NSW for over 16 years and has been involved in criminal justice for over 55 years. He is a human rights advocate. He is firmly of the view that the criminal law is totally ill-suited to deal with the issues that attend drug use and he advocates for presently illicit drugs to be legislated, regulated, controlled and taxed – with the criminal law remaining available for those who would try to operate outside the system.
	Dr Marianne Jauncey is a Public Health Physician who has worked at the pointy end of harm reduction for decades. She has been the Medical Director of the Uniting Medically Supervised Injecting Centre (MSIC) since 2008. She has been instrumental in a number of the service’s achievements. MSIC has solid community and political support and in 2010 became a permanent service. The MSIC now has an active consumer action group that goes from strength to strength. Dr Jauncey has conducted many media interviews to improve understanding about harm reduction and the nature drug use, and is always willing to get people talking.
	Will Tregoning came to drug law reform from a background in social policy research, communications consultancy and health equity program management. He completed a Bachelor of Arts and a PhD in Cultural Studies at the University of Sydney before beginning a career as a research and evaluation consultant to Australian government departments and agencies, focussing on alcohol and other drugs. He co-founded Unharm and is also co-founder of drug checking organisation The Loop Australia.
	Georgina Bell Georgina Bell (she/they) has experience in peer work, harm reduction, and community work, and is the current manager of Harm Reduction at ACON, and an Elected Board Member at NUAA. They have a Master’s in Social Work, an undergraduate in Socio-Legal studies, and lived expertise of their own. Georgina is interested in elevating evidence based and pragmatic solutions, and advocating that communities most impacted by drug policy and drug use, are centred, listened to and ultimately leading reform.
	Dr Ben Mostyn completed his PhD dissertation in 2022 on Australia’s decision to sign the 1988 UN Drug Convention. He is a former solicitor at Legal Aid NSW and currently is a researcher at Sydney University Law School.
	Shane Prince SC is a barrister who has practiced extensively in human rights law in addition to his practice in commercial, industrial, and public law. Shane has significant experience in working with people who have been charged with drug offences and is a passionate advocate improved harm reduction policies in NSW.
